itsy

Meet Itsy.  She is my mom's new horse and we love her!  The boys and I went out to see her the other day.  It is a treat to be so close to these amazing animals.
While we were there the other horses (Star and Princess) got to meet Itsy.  They didn't like her...I am hoping that changes for Itsy's sake.  They chased her and kicked her.  It was like watching National Geographic.

A girls gotta eat!

Miss Star

Dears Itsy,
We like you even if you haven't broken into the clique yet!

robots in disguise

The boys got a new toy this week!  It is a transformer from the underworld.  It took us forever to change it from a guy to a car and back again (and again and again).  I must admit it is pretty cool.

Check out these directions!!

races

We went to a NASCAR race at the Kansas Speedway last night.  It was pretty cool!  I am not a race fan, but my brother is.  I thought of him the whole time.  Miss you Joe.

art=romance

I had a conversation with one of my friends this week about romance in a 10 year marriage. Ten years ago I thought it was romantic for my hubby to share his musings and feelings, love letters, and walk me home from class.  Now I think it is romantic for my husband to get up with the kids, make me coffee, and put his arm around me and smile.  Throughout our relationship gifts have always been romantic!  Lately he has been getting me art!!  I just love it.  Here are two examples of the art my sweet husband has bestowed upon me!

This beauty is Mexican tin art from ebay.  He gave me this for out 10 year anniversary (along with a trip to the bahamas)...tin is the gift recommendation for 10 years.  It symbolized marriage as pliable.  i love that he researched it.  Read more HERE.

Do you remember how I was pining for this puffin print by beethings etsy shop?  Guess who got it for me...for no reason!  Paul.  I love it.  This is an actual print on my wall!

thrift store art.

I love to create.  I specifically love to paint...as in canvas.  The past five years have been dry as far as artistic creativity goes.  (They have been sopping wet as far as creative parenting goes.)  So, I have been finding ways to incorporate my artistic/crafty needs into my life.  One of those ways is finding already made art and remaking it to fit my taste. I found all of these at Savers...a great thrift store.

The first example is a diptych of monkeyroo art.  I am kicking myself for not taking before pictures of these paintings.  Anyway here they are!

Monkeyroo holding up a tree
Monkeyroo flying a kite

The second example is just some frames that I spray painted and added really cool letterpress postcards from Potterybarn.

peace out.

freezer paper!!

I have been wanting to try a freezer paper stencil for a long time, so I did.

I forgot to take pictures of the beginning few steps, so I will just tell you about it.
1.  Found a design online that I liked.
2.  Printed it out and taped it to freezer paper and then taped that onto a self healing board
3.  Cut through both the printer paper and freezer paper with an exacto knife
4.  Ironed the freezer paper onto a pillowcase (make sure there is a barrier between the two fabrics (a cereal box works well.)
5.  Painted!!!  My 4 year old helped with this step.

 6.  Peel it off when the paint is dry! Presto!
disregard the nasty wall

big boy bed!!  I think I will paint it or sand it or something..will post about that project soon!!!!

I would love to recover these club chairs.  They are in such good shape...I can't believe it.  Until I have some extra cash and the perfect fabric (black or orange linen would be fabulous!), they are going to stay just like this!
